Independent councillor Michael Kilcoyne said the issue 'needs attention'
Councillor Michael Kilcoyne has called for action on the issue of vermin in estates around Castlebar.
The Independent councillor told the municipal district meeting that he has been informed of vermin ‘in three different estates’ around the county town.
He said he has been told of rats ‘running wild’ around peoples homes and gardens.
“People got onto the environmental sections here (in the council) and the health board” said Mr Kilcoyne.
He explained that ‘somebody came out from the health board and handed leaflets out to the houses’, but said this is ‘not going to sort the problem’.
From a health point of view, the Castlebar-based county councillor said it was a ‘really serious’ issue that 'needs attention'.
“Something needs to be done, they’re widespread” he concluded.
