We expect some big changes in the beauty industry this year. The wheel won’t be reinvented, but there will some major tweaks to current offerings, and there are some definite trends emerging already.
Multitaskers
The rise of ingredient-led brands like the Ordinary and The Inkey List has been phenomenal. Those two brands offer extraordinary value for the quality of their products, and the secret to that is the fact that they don’t advertise or have fancy expensive packaging. They began their skincare journey with a simple range of one-ingredient products, and have now developed their products with multitasking formulas.
The Ordinary’s new offering for 2025 is the Balancing and Clarifying Serum, which targets multiple skin issues, as well as uneven skintone and hydration. Furthermore it suits all skin types. Amazing value at €23.90.
Watch out for other multitaskers, like blushers that double up as lipsticks and eyeshadows, hitting the market. They really simplify your beauty routine and save you money.
Cool as ice
Ice rollers are being touted as new best thing on the beauty market. They’re designed to aid lymphatic drainage and provide a soothing facial massage. Use before applying makeup for improved radiance. (Now, you could of course just put a few ice cubes into a facecloth and massage your face that way, but I can’t see Gen Z being bothered with that method!) Boots have a Botanics Ice Roller that’s a pretty reasonable €21. I’ll be watching these keenly to see what kind of results they get to see if these are just a fad or the real deal.
Nailing it
Nail offerings are getting some serious tweakments! Stick-on nails are the new thing. To me these are a brilliant alternative to getting the gel or biab ( ‘builder in a bottle’ ) nails, which can cause damage to the nail bed unless you follow the rules (like not trying to remove them yourself, which of course I always do!) I adore the look of nice nails, so stick-ons might be the perfect solution.
Sally Hansen Salon Effects Perfect Manicure press-ons (€11.49) are a wonderful selection of ready-to-wear nails. They’re completely natural looking, and the sets come complete with nail file, prep pad and adhesive tub.
Brand to watch
Atlantik Bodycare is a real Irish success story. The company was founded by Limerick friends Kevin Moore and Eoin Breen, both athletic and hugely interested in holistic health. They wanted to make 100 percent natural products that tackle some of the skincare issues faced by athletes and active individuals, such as breakouts, chafing and bacterial infections due to sweat and physical activity.
Their Body Armour Wash (€22.99) is a wonderful blend of seaweeds and botanical extracts that work in harmony to clean, hydrate and fortify the skin. Their bio-active Trojan Healing Serum (€32.99) penetrates deep into the skin to support skin cell renewal and a healthy youthful looking complexion. It calms irritation and offers instant comfort for inflamed sensitive skin, with healing ingredients like tamanu oil, calendula, rosehip and elder flower. Check out their full range at Atlantikbodycare.com.
