WORDSMITHS Ted and Annie Deppe will be in Louisburgh this Saturday evening.
This Saturday, June 22, American poets Ted and Annie Deppe will be giving a poetry workshop in Books@One, followed by a reading.
The couple, who have eleven collections of poetry between them, are hugely experienced and highly praised poetry workshop facilitators. For many years they represented the University of Southern Maine’s Stonecoast Master of Fine Arts Programme in Ireland, bringing graduate students over here to study each year.
Both have dual citizenship of Ireland and the US, though since 2000 they have made their home mostly in the west of Ireland. At present, they live in Renvyle, Co Galway.
Minnesota-born Ted Deppe is the author of eight collections of poetry, most recently ‘Impossible Blackbird’ (Arlen House, 2024). Before moving to Ireland from the US he won a Pushcart Prize and was awarded two National Endowment for the Arts fellowships. He worked as a registered nurse for two decades while teaching poetry and fiction classes.
Connecticut-born Annie Deppe has published three books of poetry. Her most recent collection of poems is ‘Night Collage’ (Arlen House, 2021). She has been widely published in poetry journals on both sides of the Atlantic, as well as appearing in a great many anthologies.
Saturday’s workshop in Books@One takes place from 5.30pm to 7pm. To book a place (€15) email booksatone@gmail.com (places are limited). The workshop will be followed by a reading at 7.30pm, introduced by Mayo poet Geraldine Mitchell – doors open at 7.15pm.
