A bit of Inishbofin in Ballina

ON SHOW A piece by Mary Patterson, inspired by the meaning of Inishbofin’s name (derived from the Irish ‘Inis Bó Finne’, or ‘Island of the White Cow’).

‘Impressions of Inishbofin’, a group exhibition of paintings and prints, is currently running at Ballina Library. It features the artwork of Susan Clarke, Marianne Heemskerk, Colette Edwards, Theresa Murphy, Val McLoughlin, Mary Patterson and Imelda Peppard.
These seven artists work together regularly at the weekly Ballina Arts Centre life-drawing sessions and have also taken part in landscape drawing and painting expeditions to various parts of the country.
This current exhibition is born of their most recent art-creating visit to the Galway island of Inishbofin. Over the period of a week  in September of 2022 they sketched and painted the inspirational landscape. This generated on-the-spot, finished artworks, as well as sketches and drawings to be worked on further in the artists’ own individual studios, all culminating in this charming show.
Although due to finish this weekend, ‘Impressions of Inishbofin’ has just been extended and will now run until Saturday, March 4 – giving you even more time to drop into Ballina Library and lose yourself in scenes of a little island paradise not far from home.
