CULTURE Meike Blackwell and Marie Wood, have come together to exhibit some of their sculptures in Achill Sound
Marie Wood’s ‘Pirate Queen’, an homage to Grainuaile, 80cm x 58cm.
Two Mayo-based artists with two very different approaches, Meike Blackwell and Marie Wood, have come together to exhibit some of their sculptures. The show has been some time in the planning, and Meike and Marie were thrilled to be offered space in The Art House at Achill Sound during July and August.
Meike and Marie came to know each other through a mutual friend and by meeting regularly at exhibition openings. They are inspired by each other’s work, recognising a similar passion and affinity with discarded materials, and how they evolve into sculptural forms.
Whilst there may be common thematic threads and ideas, the styles and execution are very different, but complement each other. The differences add depth and an extra edginess to the overall show.
All the works on display are for sale, but prospective buyers do not have to wait until the end of the exhibition to take possession of their new treasures, as Meike and Marie have a wealth of other intriguing sculptures to make this a potentially ever-changing exhibition.
The exhibition will open at 7pm this Friday, July 21, and the show runs through until the end of August.
