Linenhall hosts acclaimed folksinger Daoirí Farrell

Fresh from winning two awards at the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, singer and bouzouki player Daoirí Farrell performs at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on tomorrow night (Wednesday), May 24 at 8pm.
A former electrician who decided to change profession after seeing Christy Moore perform on The Late Late Show, Dublin-born traditional singer and bouzouki player Daoirí Farrell is   
is being described by some of the biggest names in Irish folk music as one of most important singers to come out of Ireland in recent years.
Farrell cut his teeth as a singer in Dublin’s famous Góilin Singers’ Club, where he was spotted early on by Christy Moore. In 2013, he won the All-Ireland Champion Singer award at the Fleadh in Co Derry, and in 2015 the prestigious Danny Kyle Award at Celtic Connections in Glasgow with the line-up FourWinds.
He launched his live solo career at Glasgow’s Celtic Connections in January 2016 and hasn’t looked back since. Festival dates and three tours of the UK will be followed performances in the UK, Ireland, Belgium, Denmark, Canada and Australia at Australia’s National Folk Festival.
Most recently, just four months after releasing the album ‘True Born Irishman’, Farrell received no less than three nominations in the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2017 – Best Newcomer, Best Traditional Track and Best Singer, winning the first two. He was also invited to play at the awards ceremony at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
Described by Mark Radcliffe of BBC Radio 2 as ‘effortless, instinctive, natural…the real deal’, Farrell also has a big fan in Donal Lunny, who hails him as ‘one of the most important traditional singers to emerge in the last decade’.
