CULTURE An exhibition of new work by Marie Wood opens at the Clew Bay Hotel this Saturday evening
‘Cloud Bloat’, by Marie Wood
Following a very successful show last year, Manchester-born artist and Mayo resident Marie Wood is looking forward to her third solo exhibition at the Clew Bay Hotel, Westport. The show, ‘Just being...’, is comprised of new work created over the last twelve months.
From abstract experimental three-dimensional oil paintings to mixed media paintings and collage inspired by the awesome beauty of Clew Bay and its fast-shifting weather, ‘Just being...’ presents over 30 artworks, each offer a glimpse into the diverse inspirations that encompass Wood’s vision.
Eerie works revealing a moody Croagh Patrick bathed in watery light, sunrises that seem to set the bay on fire, moonlit bays and reflections. The exhibition is a distillation of the magic of the area, revealing a sense of the extraordinary that is Mayo; light, energy and passion are a constant presence throughout.
During the last year Marie has had work on show at The Art House Achill, and will have a solo exhibition at The Ballina Arts Centre in November. Marie has exhibited widely in public and commercial galleries throughout Scotland and England and more recently in Ireland. Her first solo exhibition was in The National Gallery of Scotland, and she has twice exhibited works at The Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh. Marie has works in private collections in Ireland, UK, America, Italy and France.
Don’t miss the opportunity to talk to the Artist, and see these unusual and exciting works.
‘Just being’, and exibition of artworks by Marie Wood, will be officially opened in The Clew Bay Gallery this Saturday evening, April 1, at 7.30pm by artist Kristine Byrne. It will continue to run until April 30.
