GENERATING INTEREST?Mayo group Coda.
Local group Coda are back on home ground again following there successful foray into the Welsh folk scene. The group will play Matt Molloy’s Yard Bar tomorrow evening (Wednesday), April 20, with doors opening at 8.30pm.
Coda is comprised of seven men living in Mayo, connected by music. A couple of years ago, they decided to try something very different from the classical choral singing they had all become involved with, and they started arranging and performing songs from widely different sources.
Their diverse vocal and instrumental backgrounds, including folk, trad, blues, rock and pop music, combined with their experience of multi-part vocal harmony, helped them develop their arrangements intuitively. The mix of genres and vocal styles is the result. Some songs are a capella, some accompanied, some traditional, some contemporary.
Coda are currently in the process of recording the follow up album to their debut ‘Mouthmusic’. “We will be recording this gig and hoping that some of the tracks will be good enough to feature on our new album,” said member Declan Askin. “Also, we’re finally generating some interest in the Irish and UK folk festivals scene,” he added.
Coda will be playing at the Inishbofin Folk Festival, May Bank holiday weekend and at the Doolin Festival and the Middlewich Festivals in the UK in June.
