Silent Moves is coming home for a ‘one night only’ screening in Mayo. Castlebar’s Mayo Movie World will screen the ‘amazing, thought-provoking, witty and emotional’ short film on Thursday week, November 26, at 8pm. Made by Aideen Barry and the artists of Western Care’s Ridgepool Training Centre and ScannΡn Technologies in Ballina, the film has just completed a successful national tour visiting Galway, Dublin and Cork during October and November.
Silent Moves, which premiered in Ballina Arts Centre last year, tells the simple story of a love triangle, told in the way of old films, with slapstick comedy, pathos and humour. Inspired by the classic black and white silent films of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin, with a strong emphasis on movement and mime, it explores the real challenges faced by people with disabilities in our society: freedom to work, make friends, fall in love, marry, move freely in the world and make their own choices.
The film will be accompanied by a live music ensemble performing the film’s soundtrack on the evening and there will be a ‘Meet the Makers’ style session after the screening, featuring some of the participating artists from the project, alongside representatives from Ballina Arts Centre and Mayo County Council Arts Office.
The screening is audio described and subtitled, and the ‘Meet the Makers’ session will be Irish Sign Language interpreted. Mayo Movie World is wheelchair accessible and an induction loop will be available on the evening.
