Clifden-born indie rocker Seanie Vaughan and his five-piece band bring his ‘Redemption’ album tour to Matt Molloy’s on Thursday, June 18. The album, which reached No 11 in the Irish album charts, was recorded in Clew Bay Studios at The Quay in Westport.
Vaughan’s first album, ‘Altered Vision’ (2011), reached No 5 in the charts, and was widely praised. ‘Redemption’ marks a departure though, as there is a deliberate rawness and a slightly darker mood on the indie-rock influenced tracks.
After the album was recorded in Clew Bay Studios under producer Bart de Boer, who also mixed the album, it was then mastered by Pete Maher, who has worked with U2, The Killers and Paul Weller.
Since its release, ‘Redemption’ has been played on national and regional stations in Ireland, and several stations across the UK and US. It has also been highly praised by both Hotpress and Pure M magazine, with the latter nominating it for an Album of the Year award and likening Vaughan’s ‘earthy tones’ to Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, characterising it as gravelly when it needs to be, but soft when necessary.
Vaughan and his band are heading to the US this July for an extensive State-side tour. They will start off with a date at the famous House of Blues in Cleveland, Ohio, and then take in concerts in Chicago, New York, Boston and Washington.
The gig in Matt Molloy’s this Thursday is a great chance for local audiences to catch the man that has been described as ‘one of the best artists on the scene at the moment … en route to becoming an integral part of Irish rock’.
