Mayo County Council Arts Office’s Writer in Residence this year is Diarmuid de Faoite. Mr. de Faoite has spent the last fortnight travelling the length and breadth of the county working with writing groups, individual writers and members of Mayo Youth Theatre.  
To bring the residency to a close Diarmuid will give a public bi-lingual reading of his poetry and short stories in Ballina Library on Wednesday, June 4 at 7pm.  This is a free event and all are welcome on the evening.  
Diarmuid de Faoite is an actor, writer, lecturer and drama therapist.  He has received several awards with his own company, POC productions, as well as the Stewart Parker Trust/BBC NI Best Script Award for his PΡdraic Ó Conaire stage play, the Celtic Media Festival Best Feature Documentary Award for the drama documentary PΡdraic Ó Conaire - an Fear, and the Irish Language Media Best Actor Award for his role in Corp+Anam. His new collection of mythological tales, Eachtraí Thuatha Dé Danann in Éirinn, was joint winner in the new writing section of An tOireachtas 2013, and Rogha Scéalta, a collection of Ó Conaire stories edited by Diarmuid was shortlisted for Gradam Uí ShúilleabhΡin, 2008.  He has also written sketches, drama and drama documentaries for RTE and TG4 as well as translating various works. His translation of Scothscéalta for Cló Iar-Chonnacht is due for publication this year. Diarmuid recently turned to poetry with poems appearing in The Galway Review and Feasta. He lectures part-time in drama therapy in NUI, Maynooth and in aspects of performance and creative writing in NUI, Galway.
Mayo County Council Arts Office has a strong history of working with writers over the years.  Diarmuid will join a host of writers who have held residencies in Mayo including Ré Ó Laighléis, SeΡn Lysaght, MΡire Holmes, John Breen, Paddy Bushe, Éilís Ní Dhuibhne, Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, Biddy Jenkinson, Eoghan Mac Giolla Bhríde and ManchΡn Magan.
