Tchaikovsky celebrated in musical theatre

The Irish Chamber Orchestra and veteran actor Bosco Hogan join forces for a very special evening celebrating the life and work of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky in ‘My Brother Peter’ at the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, on February 19.
The Irish Chamber Orchestra and award-winning theatre director Patrick Mason present an original piece of music theatre based on one of the outstanding composers of the 19th century.  Some of Tchaikovsky’s most popular works are inter-woven through this dramatic one-man show, performed by highly respected Irish stage, film and television actor Bosco Hogan in the role of Tchaikovsky’s younger brother and first biographer, Modest.
Modest is here to scotch the rumours about his brother’s marriage, sexuality and sudden death, and settle the truth of the matter, once and for all. But certain truths are hard to tell, and he invokes his brother’s music to prove his narrative, music that tells many stories, and none.
This fascinating piece of music theatre captures the achievement and the tragedy of a man who created some of the greatest and most instantly recognisable music ever written.
Under the leadership of Katherine Hunka, the Irish Chamber Orchestra is recognised as one of Ireland’s world-class cultural assets, renowned nationally and internationally for its energy, unique sound, programme diversity and outstanding musicianship. Under the artistic direction of GΡbor TΡkacs Nagy (Principal Artistic Partner) and Jörg Widmann (Principal Guest Conductor/Artistic Partner), the Irish Chamber Orchestra continues to break boundaries and open new doors to music.
The musical performances will include Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence Op 70 (Allegro Vivace), Serenade for Strings Op 48 and Nocturne for Cello and Strings Op. 19/4.

‘My Brother Peter’ will be performed at the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, on Wednesday, February 19 at 8pm. To book, call 094 9023733 or visit www.thelinenhall.com.
