Pat Shortt to perform in to Westport

Pat Shortt’s new one-man comedy show charting the life of solo lounge musician Dixie Walsh – the man famous for ‘The Jumbo Breakfast Roll’ and ‘Where Did My Money Go?’ – is coming to Westport. The show, a fundraiser for Westport Ladies GAA, will be performed in the Castlecourt Hotel on Sunday, February 9 at 8pm.
The show, ‘I Am The Band’, is a tribute night to Dixie, where all his peers and friends (the audience) come to celebrate his career. During the night, Dixie reminisces about the path his career has taken and the struggles he has had to endure to get to the top of his game.
Pat Shortt is one of Ireland’s top comedians. Until now, the much-loved Dixie Walsh was a character who appeared in two of Pat’s sell-out shows, ‘You Won’t Get Away With That Here’ and ‘The Hall’. Now Dixie takes centre stage to tell his life story and shares his unique style of music in ‘I Am The Band’.
Shortt’s quirky interpretation of rural Irish characters brings to life Dixie’s mother, his teacher and other locals who queue up to recall their bizarre memories of Dixie and his music. ‘I Am The Band’ is a hilarious look at life on the back roads between Ireland’s dance halls, and a tribute to one of this country’s true music legends – Dixie Walsh.

Tickets (€28) for Pat Shortt’s ‘I Am The Band’ show in the Castlecourt Hotel, Castlebar Street, Westport, on February 9 are available from the hotel (098 55088), from Downtown Records Westport and Castlebar and from Westport Ladies GAA club members. Doors open at 7.30pm.
