Cello and piano musical recital in Achill
The Achill Heinrich Böll Association are pleased to present their recital of music for the cello and piano with Alison Moncrieff-Kelly (cello), and Stephen Coombs (piano), on Saturday evening next, August 17 at 8pm in St Thomas’s Church Dugort, Achill Island.
Alison Moncrieff-Kelly studied at the Royal Academy of Music and subsequently with Pierre Fournier in Geneva. She has performed and broadcast all over Europe and the UK as soloist and chamber musician, specializing in piano trio repertoire. In 1998 she made her debut in Australia, performing in the Perth International Festival. She has made a number of successful recordings, including the complete piano trios of Hummel, the piano trios of Clara Schumann and Saint-Saens, the complete cello and piano works of Stanford and three discs of solo cello repertoire.
Stephen Coombs is one of the leading English pianists of his generation, active not only as a soloist and recitalist but as a chamber player and duo pianist. He has become particularly well known for his interpretations of works by lesser-known late-Romantic composers, such as Arensky, Bortkiewicz, Glazunov, Reynaldo Hahn, and many others. Coombs was born in Birkenhead, (near Liverpool. He studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, Junior School, and at the Royal College of Music. He built his career, as a recitalist and soloist with major orchestras, and also as a chamber music performer and duo pianist. In 1998 and 1999, he served as festival director and artistic director of Piano works - the International Piano Festival, in London.
