‘Sense of Place’, an curated exhibition for children, is running at the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, for October
Art to capture young minds
‘Sense of Place’, a curated exhibition presented in association with Ballinglen Arts Foundation, continues at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar for the month of October. The Linenhall Arts Centre’s annual visual art exhibition for children features the work of a number of artists working in a variety of media, including paint, photography and sculpture. The show has been curated by the Linenhall’s Community Arts Team, from the collection at the Ballinglen Arts Foundation. Over several visits, artists Breda Burns, Marian McHale, Jodi Coyne and Rachel McDonnell, assisted by Patricia Halligan, selected a series of works to capture the imagination of younger viewers and offer them the opportunity to explore the theme in depth. All this month they are delivering gallery tours and workshops to school groups. Ballinglen Arts Foundation was established in 1992 to bring established and emerging artists from Ireland and abroad to live and work in North Mayo. Its programmes, a series of interrelated projects in the visual arts, provide a direct socio-economic and educational benefit to the community whilst contributing substantively to the development of each individual artist’s work. The exhibition runs until Monday, October 29.
