MUSIC RubberBandits in Castlebar for St Patrick’s Day madness

RubberBandits bounce into town for St Patrick’s Day
The RubberBandits have just announced a quintet of live shows, which will include the Royal Theatre in Castlebar for some St Patrick’s Day celebrations on March 17. The infamous pair – AKA Mr Chrome and Blindboy Boat Club – will be joined on the night by a host of local talent, including Social Welfare, 21 Outs and Struck. More bands will join in for an after party too. Social Welfare, an alternative-rock band from Castlebar, have just finished their first album, which included the single ‘Home’, recently released for Cancer Research. 21 outs, an energetic three-piece band from Ballina, play blues-influenced melodic rock with a dirty edge. Castlebar pop-punk band Struck are a band in the ascendant, having played with support big names as Scuba Dice, The Coronas and Director. The RubberBandits launched their debut album ‘Serious About Men’ earlier this month. A double-CD packed with tracks old and new, prank phone calls and more, it is everything you have come to expect from the RubberBandits, and then some. Having shot to worldwide fame in 2010, it’s been a momentous year for the comedy hip-hop outfit after their ‘Horse Outside’ video, which premiered on RTÉ’s Republic of Telly, went viral. It’s been viewed online over 8 million times now, and become somewhat of an anthem for the lads. The Bandits have also had critically acclaimed shows at Oxegen and Electric Picnic, storming UK festival appearances at Reading and Leeds and a sold-out run of shows in New York and Australia. When you throw in filming a four-part series, a live show with MTV in the USA, an IFTA award and working with Father Ted director Declan Lowney on Channel 4’s Blaps series of online films, it’s a wonder the boys have time to punch the holes in their plastic-bag balaclavas. Still, they’ve made time for the St Patrick’s Night bash in Castlebar – and it’s shaping up to be a night to remember. Expect mayhem and madness, and maybe even a horse outside.
For tickets to the RubberBandits St Patrick’s Night show (€15 each) contact the Royal Box Office on 0818 300 000.
