Aileen Ketterick, Westport, describes her holiday in Turkey, where she and a friend enjoyed the perfect break
Turkish Delight
Aileen Ketterick Westport
I am just back from Turkey and the break from all the bad weather here in Ireland was just fantastic. Myself and my friend, Teresa Cannon, stayed in her mother’s luxury apartment in Gold City, Alanya. It is just amazing, it is Five Star and is situated way up on a hill, with panoramic views overlooking the Mediterranean and the mountains. Each day we would wake up really early; it was very hot, 38 or 39 degrees. We would spend the morning at the pool, it had loads of slides for the kids. Really, there was no need to leave the complex, it had everything: bars, restaurants. There was really good value for money with delicious pizzas for €5. There was also a Japanese restaurant where you could watch your fish being cooked and way up on the sixteenth floor there was a revolving bar. Generally we drank cocktails, such as Margaritas or Long Island Iced Teas. One day we went down into the market where they sold all kinds of fruit and vegetables, as well as local crafts. I bought perfume and some shirts. There is always a bit of hassle in markets but people were really nice and friendly. We also had a Turkish massage and went to the beach, which was very rocky. While there was lots of nightlife at the apartment complex, it was busier and cheaper down town. The entire holiday was just so relaxing and I am all set to return to DCU for another year of hard work.
