My Mayo Holiday – Brenda Flinter, PR Manager, Dublin

Brenda Flinter on why she and her family have returned to Mulranny, Co Mayo, time and time again
Marvellous Mulranny
Brenda Flinter Dublin PR Manager
We’ve been to Mulranny four times now, always staying at the Mulranny Park Hotel. We had a fantastic holiday in Mayo last year and felt nothing could beat it again this year. We were there for two weeks in late July/early August. We first went there in 2005 when I was expecting our first child. I was at the stage of my pregnancy where I couldn’t fly so we decided to try Mayo. Both my husband and I lead busy lives and I have to travel for work so when it comes to holidays we love being able to pack the car and head off at whatever time we like - no schedules to keep to, no bags to weigh, the kids can bring what they want etc. Last year’s stay in Mulranny ticked all of the boxes so it wasn’t a hard decision to go again this year. Of course, once you get a bit of sunshine on the beaches of Ireland you wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in the world. The hotel is great for organising activities. The Kids Club is brilliant for our two girls, Clara (6) and Eliana (4) and there is so much for them to do. Minders supervise the club and the girls love going every morning so this gave myself and my husband an hour or two of freedom in the morning to read, go for walks, or whatever we wanted - priceless. Our afternoons were filled with trips to the local beaches, going to Achill, Westport, horse-riding, swimming and crab fishing. Ballycroy National Park was our ‘find’ this year. The park is fabulous, the visitors’ centre is a beautiful piece of architecture and the food there is really excellent. There was probably only one unfortunate element to the holiday. My husband went to Achill to catch the light with landscape photographer Eamonn McCarthy but slipped on some rocks at Keem beach and dislocated two fingers. Eamonn was great though, he made sure my husband was well looked after and they went out a second time to make sure they got some good shots.
