Standing ovation for opening of GrΡinne Mhaol musical

‘The Legend of GrΡinne Mhaol’ traditional-music show at Hotel Westport received a standing ovation following a sold-out opening performance of the show last week in Westport.
The show, which runs every Wednesday during the summer at Hotel Westport, received glowing reviews from everyone in attendance with many stating they will be returning with family and friends over the summer months. The GrΡinne Mhaol show is now regarded as a ‘must see’ for visitors to Mayo this summer.
“We’re delighted that the show went so well for our opening performance and we are especially thrilled that so many people came to support us for our maiden voyage this year.
This show is all about showcasing Mayo talent to the world, it features some of Mayo’s finest musicians, dancers and singers and we hope that people will support us again this year,” commented Westport native and show producer Piaras Ó Raghallaigh.
The Legend of GrΡinne Mhaol music show is based on the real-life story of the legendary Irish pirate chieftain, Grace O’ Malley or GrΡinne Mhaol and it is a wonderful celebration of Irish music, song and dance.
“I want to personally thank all the tourism providers, local media and especially Hotel Westport for giving us the encouragement to sail with the show again this year.
Putting on a show with a cast and crew of twenty people is a massive risk each year but we have survived so far and we hope that it will continue,” commented Ó Raghallaigh.
The Legend of GrΡinne Mhaol features a wealth of talented musicians and dancers from all over the west of Ireland. Lord of the Dance fiddle player Cora Smyth headlines the show with You’re a Star finalist James Kilbane, Ballinrobe native Jenny Mulvey, Latino sensation Pollyanna Guedes, All-Ireland champion musicians Darragh, Sinéad and Stephen Doherty, World champion dancer Róisín Timoney and some of Ireland’s most-gifted and best-known sean nós dancers in Liam Scanlon, Ashline and Michael Cunningham all performing on the opening night.

Tickets for the GrΡinne Mhaol show cost €25 and are available from Hotel Westport on 098 25122 or www.grainnemhaol.com.
