COMEDY Parke Drama Group stages ‘Cupid Wore Skirts’

‘Cupid Wore Skirts’ revolves around Andrew Coulter and his somewhat reluctant search for a wife.
Countdown to Cupid in Parke

The countdown is on for Parke Arts and Drama Group’s production of ‘Cupid Wore Skirts’, by Sam Cree. The cast and crew are busy putting the finishing touches to all aspects of the show, which will be staged from March 3 to March 6, at Parke Community Centre.
‘Cupid Wore Skirts’ revolves around Andrew Coulter and his somewhat reluctant search for a wife. All the action takes place in Andy’s living room, and the comings and goings of potential suitors.
Andrew Coulter (played by Stephen McDonnell) lives with his elderly father (played by Noel Mahon) and son, Brian (played by Des Gilsenan). His married daughter, Daphne (played by Trina Healy), comes in each day to take care of the men and ensure they are coping. When Daphne becomes pregnant, her visits will have to become more limited and she fears for her male relatives’ ability to cope.
Andrew’s sister-in-law, the formidable spinster Aunt Harriet (played by Sharon Cameron), is convinced they will not be able to manage. During a bout of banter with Andrew, she makes a wager that he couldn’t get a new wife within a week. Andrew takes the bait and advertises for a wife in the forlorn hope that he will win the bet and obtain a solution to his problems.
The fun really starts when we meet an array of very different suitors, ranging from a ‘sexy’ pop wannabe (played by Emily Connor) to a ‘conservative’ demure homemade-wine connoisseur (played by Jo Dean), to a career husband hunter (played by Brid Quinn) with a family in tow. A cameo from Michael Maguire (playing the flamboyant Ronnie) is one to watch out for.
‘Cupid Wore Skirts’ is directed by first time directors Vincent McHale and Mary Mahon and produced by Breda Morris and Kate Boyle.

‘Cupid Wore Skirts’ runs from Thursday, March 3, to Sunday, March 6,  in Parke Community Centre with nightly performances at 8.30pm. For tickets (€10), contact Ann on 094 9031128 (after 6pm). For more information, visit www.parkedrama.com or email info@parkedrama.com.
