‘An Elusive Light’, An exhibition of new paintings by Partry native Deirdre Walsh, opened on Thursday, September 16, at the Custom House Studios, Westport Quay.
The exhibition, which runs until October 10, contains new paintings focusing on the areas of Lough Cara and Lough Mask in south Co Mayo.
For 20 years the artist has been watching and studying this landscape. She describes an internal struggle and the necessary discipline required to capture it. The light and landscape appears and disappears in an elusive manner. Experiencing the landscape gives the artist a sense of nature contemplating the Creator. For Deirdre these paintings are a silent reflection of that experience.
Deirdre Walsh will give a gallery talk about her exhibition of new on Culture Night, September 24, at 7.30pm at the gallery. Admission to the talk and to the exhibition is free.
