Horkans Castlebar raises €10,000 for children with cancer

Mayo fundraiser supports Daisy Lodge project in Cong and ongoing family services
A leading Mayo business has raised €10,000 for children and families affected by cancer through a community fundraising initiative in Castlebar.
Horkan's Castlebar, led by director Paraic Horkan, generated the funds in support of Cancer Fund for Children, a charity providing emotional, social and therapeutic services to young people across the island of Ireland.
The money was raised through the sale of a special Daisy Lodge daisy plant, inspired by the charity’s new therapeutic centre currently under development at Daisy Lodge on the shores of Lough Corrib.
The initiative allowed customers to contribute directly to the project while taking home a plant symbolising the centre, which will offer restorative short breaks for children living with cancer and their families.
Speaking about the fundraiser, Paraic Horkan said the support from the local community had been vital.
“We want to thank everyone for their support so far. It means so much. The funds raised will help Daisy Lodge provide much-needed breaks to children and families from across Ireland,” he said.
The fundraising efforts are set to continue, with Mr Horkan preparing to take part in a major charity cycle next month. From May 8 to 9, he will join 69 cyclists travelling 300km from Dublin to Westport as part of an event organised by the New Beginning Cycling Club.
The event, now in its second year, raised €67,000 in 2025 and aims to build on that success in 2026.
