A special community celebration took place in Ballina yesterday (Thursday, April 2) with the launch of the 'Light It Up' for World Autism Day Art Project, showcasing the creativity and spirit of the local autistic community.

The event, held at the Jackie Clarke Collection, was officially launched by Minister Dara Calleary, who described the evening as a meaningful and inspiring occasion.

“It was a great honour to launch this project,” he said. “It was a truly special evening celebrating the autistic community in Ballina and a spectacular display of artistic talent.”

Organised by Ballina Autism Friendly Town, the initiative aims to promote inclusion, awareness and community connection through art.

Organisers expressed their gratitude to all who attended and contributed to the project, describing the launch as a heartfelt celebration of creativity and collaboration.

“We’re so proud to be building a more inclusive and welcoming community together,” a spokesperson said.

The art exhibition will remain on display over the Easter weekend, offering the public an opportunity to view the work and engage with the message of autism awareness in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

Residents and visitors alike are being encouraged to attend and experience the display, which organisers say reflects both the talent and diversity within the community.

The initiative forms part of wider efforts in Ballina to foster inclusivity and ensure that all members of the community feel supported and represented.
