A number of roads in Westport will be temporarily closed later this month to facilitate a community event organised by a local school.
Mayo County Council has confirmed that a number of roads in the town will close from 7 am to 5 pm on Thursday, March 26, to allow the Sacred Heart School Westport Relay the Nation event to take place.
The council said the temporary closures are necessary to ensure the safe running of the event and to accommodate participants and organisers throughout the day.
According to the council notice, several streets in the town centre will be affected during the event.
The roads scheduled for temporary closure include South Mall and Lower Fairgreen (L-6804). During the closure period, traffic will be diverted via Bridge Street (N-59), North Mall (L-6803), Castlebar Street (R-309), Distillery Road (R-309) and Mill Street (R-330).

Motorists are advised to plan their journeys in advance and to follow local signage and any diversion routes that will be put in place during the event.
The Relay the Nation initiative involves students taking part in a relay-style activity designed to bring the school community together while promoting participation and awareness.
