Sancta Maria College, Louisburgh, has been formally recognised as an Apple Distinguished School, one of a select group of innovative schools worldwide to receive the prestigious designation.

The award was celebrated today at a special event hosted in the Law Society of Ireland, Blackhall Place, Dublin, attended by representatives from Apple, school leadership, and the wider education community.

Apple Distinguished Schools are recognised for their commitment to continuous innovation in teaching and learning, and for creating an exemplary learning environment that harnesses Apple technology to inspire creativity, collaboration, and academic excellence.

Sancta Maria College introduced one-to-one iPads just three years ago and has rapidly transformed teaching and learning across the school. This recognition acknowledges the staff’s creativity, the students’ enthusiasm, and the vision of school leadership in ensuring equal access to global opportunities for a rural community in West Mayo.

Principal Dr Áine Moran said:

“This award is a testament to the dedication of our staff and students, who have embraced technology not as an add-on, but as a tool to enhance learning, creativity, and connection. At Sancta Maria College, we believe that our young people deserve the very best opportunities, no matter where they live, and this designation places our school firmly on the global map for innovation.”
