TWO Mayo communities will unite this weekend to mourn the passing of a much-loved woman who made a lasting impression on all who met her. Phill Conway (nee Enright) passed away earlier this week after a brief illness and her death has been greeted with great sadness in both Castlebar and Ballycroy.

Phill, mother of Mayo TD Rose Conway Walsh, was a native of Lisselton in Kerry. She was very proud of her native place and visited the county just two weeks ago. She spent many years raising her family in Ballycroy and was immersed in the life of the Erris parish. She was involved in many community initiatives and sporting endeavours. Phill ran her own successful hair-dressing business for a time in the local community centre and was well-loved by all who encountered the warm and welcoming Kerry woman.

Phill subsequently moved to Castlebar where she spent many happy years and developed a wonderful circle of friends in the town. Of all her achievements, Phill was proudest to be described as a mother and grandmother to her loving family with whom she created many wonderful memories.

A woman of great talent, Phill was renowned for her kind and generous disposition. She had a hugely positive outlook on life and always looked to the future with great expectation.

She was pre-deceased by her son Colum and daughter Nora-Mai.

Phill will be sadly missed by her heartbroken family, daughters Rose, Philo, Sinead and Fiona and her sons Peter Paul, Dermot and Michael and their partners, adored grandchildren, her sisters Nora-Mai Walsh and Katie Sweeney, nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives, friends and neighbours.

Remains reposing at Kilcoyne Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar today, Saturday, from 3 until 5pm with removal to The Church of the Holy Family Ballycroy arriving at 7pm.

Funeral Mass on Sunday at 12.30pm with burial afterwards in the local cemetery.

Funeral Mass will be live-streamed on Holy Family Church Ballycroy Facebook page.
