MANY areas of Achill have been left without drinking water this morning following a major burst in the water network.
Local councillor Paul McNamara posted on his Facebook page that local crews from Uisce Éireann are currently working on the problem with the hope of restoring the supply to customers around the parish.
“There is currently a major burst on the water network in the Achill area, as a result there are many areas without water. Crews are working to restore supply as quickly as possible,” the Fianna Fáil councillor posted this morning.
Once a fault has been repaired it typically takes two to three hours for normal supply to be restored to all customers affected by an unplanned outage. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers on higher ground or at the end of the network.
This is the second time this month that a major burst on the Achill water network left many areas on the island with a water supply.
On August 6, Uisce Éireann reported that a number of communities were left without a water supply following a major burst which took a number of hours to repair.
