The forty-third annual Milwaukee Irish Fest has been taking place on the shores of Lake Michigan in Wisconsin.
The largest celebration of Irish culture and heritage in the United States is a four-day festival which has a huge audience of more than 130,000 visitors.
A delegation of tourism enterprises from around Ireland, including Mayo County Council, also attended this year’s festival, highlighting the many things to see and do in the county for American holidaymakers.
The event was an ideal opportunity for Tourism Ireland to showcase the island of Ireland as a superb holiday destination to an important diaspora audience and people with an interest in Ireland, inspiring them to come and visit.
Alison Metcalfe, Tourism Ireland’s Head of North America, said: “The Milwaukee Irish Fest provides a really good platform for Tourism Ireland to showcase the island of Ireland, including our rich heritage and culture, to prospective American visitors.
Ms Metcalfe called the celebration a ‘wonderful opportunity’ to inspire the many people who are living and working in the US with Irish connections to come and visit.
She explained how the US remains an extremely important market for Irish tourism, and stated how in 2023, over 1.1 million American tourists were welcomed in Ireland.
“It’s our most important market in terms of revenue, responsible for around 30 percent of all tourist revenue in 2023,” she concluded.
