Mayo Gardaí seek public assistance following fatal quad bike accident in Achill

Gardaí are at the scene of a fatal accident involving a quad bike on Achill Island

GARDAÍ in Achill are investigating the death of a pensioner who was killed following a quad bike accident this afternoon.

The man believed to be in his 80s was pronounced dead at the scene following an incident at around 1.30pm on the road to Purteen Harbour just off the R319 near Keel. No other injuries were reported following the single vehicle collision.

The body of the man was removed and taken to Mayo University Hospital where a post mortem examination is due to take place.

The road is currently closed while forensic collision investigators carry out technical examinations of the scene.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them. Anyone who may have been in the vicinity of Keel on Achill Island between 1pm and 2pm and who may have camera footage including dash cam footage is asked to make contact with gardaí and make it available to gardaí.
