Mayo woman who died in N17 traffic accident named locally

THE woman who died in a fatal road traffic collision on the N17 outside Claremorris has been named locally as Andrea Gornowicz.

A native of Germany, Ms Gornowicz who was aged 58 years, lived in the Claremorris region for a number of years and worked in the local Tesco supermarket.

Ms Gornowicz died on Thursday afternoon after she was involved in a three-car collision on the N17 between Claremorris and Ballindine at Castlemagarrett.

The collision occurred at approximately 11.50am on Thursday morning and initial reports suggest a car turning right at the Crossboyne junction along the N17 was rear ended and driven into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

Ms Gornowicz who was driving south along the N17 was pronounced dead at the scene while the drivers of the two other cars were taken to hospital to be treated for what are described as non-life threatening injuries.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N17 at Ballindine at the time of the collision are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
