A Garda message to supporters travelling to Castlebar tomorrow for the Allianz National Football league clash between Mayo and Dublin are asked to use alternative routes to the venue. A Garda message states that there are major roadsworks ongoin on the Claremorris-Balla road, on the Balla side of the Beaten Path.

The Mayo County Council urges arriving fans to park safely and smart and asks to obey bylaws and show consideration to local residents when parking their cars. Parking around Hastings Insurance MacHale Park is limited, there will be no public parking in the An Sportlann car park.

Parking by supporters along the N5 is not recommended for health and safety reasons. Mayo County Council encourage all supporters who are attending the game to avail of the ample car parking spaces in Castlebar and walk the short distance to the ground.

Motorists are also advised that an extensive Garda Roads Policing Operation is taking place throughout this St Brigid’s Bank Holiday Weekend until 7am on Tuesday, February 6th.

An Garda Síochána and the Mayo Road Safety Office are appealing to motorists to drive safely and without distraction this bank holiday weekend.

Bank Holiday Weekends are one of the busiest periods on Irish roads, they are also one of the periods where road users are at the highest risk of being involved in a fatal or serious road traffic collision.
