Mattie and Josephine Geraghty together with their son Jason
Geraghty Boat Charters, a well-known name along the Wild Atlantic Way, is embarking on a new era. In a bittersweet transition, the founding family will be taking a step back from the captaincy.
Reflecting on three decades of memorable journeys, the time has come to pass leadership of the charters to the next generation. The spotlight now turns to their son Jason, who, along with his partner Katherine and daughters Maisie and Kitty, is set to lead Geraghty Charters into the next chapter.
Manager of Mayo North Tourism, Mairéad Melody Carr shared that the “Geraghtys welcome everyone as friends, and their captivating stories and warm hospitality have not only left a lasting impression on international visitors, the domestic market, and locals but also resonated with media and influencers”.
Established in the summer of 1993 with the launch of the ‘Ave Marie’ at Blacksod Pier, Geraghty Charters became synonymous with thrilling expeditions to the breathtaking Inishkea Islands, Achill Island, and exciting sea angling trips around Blackrock. The family-owned business has been a mainstay for those seeking maritime adventures in the tranquil waters of Mayo. The fleet expanded over the last 30 years with the addition of ‘Fionnuala’ and ‘Noirín Bán’.
Conveying sincere appreciation, Mattie and Josephine Geraghty extend thanks to everyone who has been partof their remarkable journey.
“We wish to thank each and everyone who supported us, sailed with us, helped us, and skippered for us during the last 30 years. The community support and the memories created will always be remembered in Geraghty Charters’ history” they said.
Ms Melody Carr has expressed her ‘best wishes’ to Jason and his family, ‘for success in growing this business’.
She said: “I look forward to the exciting next chapter in Geraghty Charters’ journey along Blacksod Bay and the Wild Atlantic Way.”
As the torch is passed along to the next generation, the tale of Geraghty Boat Charters continues along North Mayo's scenic coast. The transition marks a new and exciting chapter in Blacksod Bay’s maritime narrative.
