Storm Isha: Brace yourself for heavy rainfall on Sunday

Met Éireann is warning of heavy rain this Sunday

The good news first: After a cold snap this week with heavy snowfall in parts of Mayo, it's going to be warmer this weekend. Saturday will be generally cloudy but with a good deal of dry weather for a time, with just scattered patches of light rain and drizzle, temperatures reaching ten degrees. However, more persistent rain will develop in the evening.

But with Storm Isha reaching Ireland, weather conditions will be very difficult on Sunday. According to Met Eireann, Isha will bring near gale force winds and heavy rainfall across the county of Mayo.

The national weather forecaster has a status yellow weather warning in place for Sunday from 11am until 6am on Monday morning, with the bulk of the rainfall predicted for Sunday afternoon.

Temperatures will rise to twelve degrees but the showers will make for challenging driving conditions. The Road Safety Authority has urged drivers to be careful on the roads and be aware of debris, branches or loose objects scattered around. The rain will ease off during Sunday night and Monday morning commuters will encounter more favourable driving conditions.
