'Check it Fits' service in Westport and Ballinrobe.
The Road Safety Authority (RSA) have announced that their face-to-face child car seat checking service – Check it Fits, will be coming to Mayo this month.
You can find free service from 10.00am to 5.30pm, January 23, in Westpoint Shopping Centre, Westport, and January 24, in Aldi Ballinrobe. It only takes 10 to 15 minutes, and is a walk-in service, so no appointment is needed.
The aim of the service is to help parents with any queries they might have, and ensure car seats and restraints are correctly fitted through demonstrating how to do so.
Car seats may seem simple to install, however installation can easily go wrong. The RSA have found that almost one third of seats are fitted incorrectly and need major adjustments. Aisling Sloyan, Senior Road Safety Promotion Officer for the RSA gave the example of “seats being excessively loose so as to make the fitting almost ineffective” as one of these adjustments. Over 60 percent of incorrect installations are minor, such as “the fitting being loose or a twisted seatbelt.”
Sloyan “would encourage people to visit the Check it Fits service” in their area in order to “give yourself the peace of mind that your children are travelling safely.”
