Temperatures to stay frosty but dry across the county

Beware of slippery roads tomorrow morning

After a cold snap delivering frost in Mayo last night, it looks like we will have to wrap ourselves up to stay warm for a while longer.

According to Met Éireann, temperatures will drop to zero degrees across the county again tonight.

Unfortunately, while we had some sunshine this Wednesday, tomorrow is mostly going to be cloudy throughout most parts of Mayo, with temperatures only rising to four degrees in areas like Castlebar, Ballyhaunis and Cong.

Only on the northern fringe of the county will the temperatures rise slightly more, for example to six degrees in Belmullet. And if you want to get a bit of sunshine tomorrow your best chance will also be on the northern coast, for example in Ballycastle or Killala, where the sun will break through the clouds in the afternoon, just in time for a wonderful winter sunset.

But we should brace ourselves for lower temperatures to possibly arrive next week.

The cancellation of a big colleges GAA match today due to a frozen pitch will hopefully remain the only one for the upcoming wintry days.
