Gardaí carrying out investigations into the collision between a van and a tractor in Ballinrobe this morning
A MAN involved in an early morning traffic collision in Ballinrobe this morning is in a serious condition in hospital in Castlebar.
The man was rushed to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar after receiving serious injuries following a collision between a tractor and a van at approximately 7.15am on the N84 Castlebar Road in Ballinrobe.
The busy N84 Castlebar Road was closed to traffic throughout the day as a technical examination of the scene was completed by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators . Diversions were put in placed during the day and it is understood that the road will reopen later this evening.
The collision is believed to have occurred at approximately 7.15am this morning close to the entrance to McHale Machinery and involved a tractor and a white work van. The emergency services were called to the scene to assist the injured parties. It is understood that the driver of the tractor was seriously injured and rushed to Mayo University Hospital where he remains in a critical condition. The driver of the van was treated for injuries at the scene but they are not believed to have been serious.
Gardaí in Claremorris investigating the collision have asked for anybody who may have witnessed the collision or may have been travelling in the area with camera footage (including dash cam), to make this available to the investigation team.
