Lorraine Toner organised a charity Zumba Christmas charity flashmob in Boots Castlebar previously. Now, she's asking people to get involved in a Zumba class with a twist
A unique opportunity to help the homeless in Mayo occurs later this month when a Zumba class with a twist takes place in Westport on December 17. The number of people experiencing homelessness in Mayo currently stands at 173 and the event will raise money to help people can access important much-needed supports they urgently require to keep a home or find a place they call home.
Mayo woman, Lorraine Toner is head of national community fundraising for Focus Ireland, an organisation working with people who are homeless or are at risk of losing their homes throughout the country. They offer individuals and families advice, support, education and housing to help people have and keep a home. Focus Ireland believes that everyone has a right to a place they can call home and the organisation works to address the causes of homelessness.
Lorraine held a Zumba Charity Christmas Flashmob in Boots Castlebar previously and it was a huge success. Now, she's organising a Zumba Christmas Jumper Fun Class at 3pm on December 17 in GRIT Fitness & Dance in Westport to raise vital funds and she's asking as many people as possible to come along.
"We can all play our part in this desperate crisis and help those experiencing homelessness this Christmas by fundraising. I'm choosing to use Zumba to do that and hope that as many as possible will join me for 90 minutes and raise vital funds as well as have a great fun festive Zumba class.
"Come along and bring a friend or family member with you. It's open to everyone from the age of 10 up. I guarantee anyone who gets involved will have fun while also helping out our homeless here in Mayo and across the country."
There will be a prize for most festive dancer on the day and raffle prizes too.
