BALLYHAUNIS postman Gerry Plunkett has retired from An Post after 30 years of service. The man form Forthill has called it a day after three decades of delivering post around the region.

Prior to taking up a job with the Post Office, Gerry spent some time in Delaney’s and Concannon’s in Ballyhaunis. After doing some relief work with the Post Office in Ballyhaunis, he spent some time over in Castlerea before returning to his home parish and taking up a full-time assignment as a postman for the district.

Gerry spent many years delivering the post in an area stretching from out the Claremorris road through Hazelhill and down Doctor’s Road. After the retirement of Joe Byrne (Johnstown) a few years ago, he covered the Tooreen region over the last six years or so.

Over the years he acquired a great knowledge of the people of the region and developed a fine friendship with so many along his daily ‘run’. He had a great fondness for the job and many messages of goodwill have been received by Gerry since his retirement.

He was joined by his wife Patricia and sons Damien, Jason and Keith, and colleagues for a retirement 'do' in The Clock, Ballyhaunis, where tributes were paid to Gerry for his dedication, commitment and loyalty over the years. He is wished all the best in the times ahead.
