Surf's up in Belmullet this weekend

While most of the county will be bemoaning more wet and windy conditions across the county this weekend, those flocking to the Mayo Mayhem event in Belmullet will be hoping for stormy conditions on Friday and Saturday.

Mayo Mayhem Ireland has been described as the biggest windsurfing event in the region and it takes place across Friday and Saturday at the well-appointed Elly Beach in Belmullet.

Picturesque Elly Bay will be welcoming some of Europe's top windsurfers this weekend.

One of the organisers, Malcolm Scott, is very much looking forward to an action packed weekend: “The forecast is looking great with strong winds and good size waves allowing specular jumping and wave riding. This year Mayo Mayhem is a two-star ranked world tour event attracting the best windsurfers from Ireland and abroad. They come to compete in the windiest place in Europe, which we all know is Belmullet!

“It will be a spectacular sight full of colour, skill, bravery and excitement. For once the worst of the wet and windy Irish weather will be making lots of people very happy as they push hard to win Mayo Mayhem 23.” For more information contact Malcolm on info@apt.ie or check out www.Mayomayhem.ie.
