Tributes paid to teenager following death in tractor accident

St Jarlath's College in Tuam have paid tribute to its pupil Adam Higgins who passed away following a fall from a tractor

ST Jarlath's College in Tuam paid tribute to its current pupil, Adam Higgins who died in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin following a fall from a tractor.

Sixteen-year-old Adam Higgins from Caherlistrane in Co Galway passed away in the early hours of Wednesday morning, September 6. The previous Wednesday he was rushed to Beaumont Hospital after he suffered serious injuries following a fall from a tractor.

A fifth year student of St Jarlath's College in Tuam, the school paid tribute to Adam following his passing which has shocked the north Galway community.

“It is with great sadness and regret that we have learned of the passing of our 5th year student Adam Higgins, RIP. As a school community we are deeply upset at this tragic loss of Adam and our thoughts and prayers are with Adam, his family and friends. Adam will be sorely missed by everyone at the college. Funeral arrangements will follow. May Adam's gentle soul rest in peace,” the Tuam-based secondary school posted on their Facebook page.

His uncle Seán is involved in underage coaching with Shrule/Glencorrib GAA club and the club expressed their sympathy with all of Adam's family on their tragic loss.

“All at Shrule/Glencorrib send our deepest condolences to the Burke and Higgins families on the sad passing of Adam. Our thoughts especially go to Adam's Uncle Seán who is our Under 12s coach and to his cousins Jessica, Emma and Conor who all play for our club. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”

Adam's funeral arrangements have been announced and he will repose at Carey’s Funeral Home, Headford on Saturday, September 9 from 4pm until 7pm. Removal from his home on Sunday, September 10 to arrive at Church of Mary Immaculate and St Joseph Caherlistrane, for requiem Mass at 1pm with burial afterwards in Donaghpatrick Cemetery. The incident involving the tractor occurred at approximately 7.40pm on Wednesday, August 30 in the Sylane area outside Tuam. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have video footage, to come forward to them.
