Mayo Mental Health Association (MMHA) are delighted to announce their new initiative, 'Out the Gap', will commence on Wednesday, September 20 and will run for 12 consecutive weeks.
Out the Gap is a nature-based intervention programme focused on green exercise. This programme is built upon the same evidence-based model as the ‘Woodlands for Health’ initiative. There will be an experienced walking leader for each walk, and the programme is for people of all mobility and fitness levels.
A spokesperson for MMHA said here is much research that shows engaging with nature through outdoor activities can have a significant positive impact on people’s mental health and well-being.
“Physical activity within green nature-based settings offers a low-cost, accessible, and sustainable solution to public health - particularly in relation to mental health challenges.
“Out the Gap allows participants to make nature part of their toolkit for supporting their own mental health while also showcasing the wonderful trails North Mayo has to offer. Mayo Mental Health Association would like to thank Pobal and Healthy Mayo for funding and supporting the Out the Gap Programme."
