Ireland West Airport Knock
FLIGHTS in and out of Ireland West Airport Knock are unaffected by ongoing issues with UK air traffic control.
Yesterday, inbound flights from Liverpool, Bristol, London Luton and an outbound service to Heathrow was cancelled because of a technical fault with air traffic controllers in the UK.
A spokesperson for Ireland West Airport Knock told The Mayo News this afternoon that there would be no cancellations of any flights in or out of the airport today (Tuesday).
Flights from Liverpool, East Midlands and London Luton are due to arrive today while flights to Edinburgh, London LHR, Liverpool, East Midlands and London are to due depart from Knock.
Yesterday (Monday), approximately 100 flights between the UK and Ireland were cancelled following a technical fault at the UK’s National Air Traffic Service (NATS).
The fault has since been resolved, but a number of flights between Dublin and the UK have still been cancelled today.
A spokesperson for Aer Lingus stated today: “Like all airlines using UK airspace, we continue to face unavoidable cancellations and delays.”
“We are doing everything possible to minimise any further disruption to our customers and we apologise to all those impacted for the inconvenience caused, which is due to circumstances outside of our control.”
In a statement today, Ryanair: “Today, passengers can expect some flight disruptions as we work to get our aircraft and crews back on schedule. We expect some flight cancellations and considerable flight delays today caused by this latest, still unexplained, NATS failure.
“We apologise sincerely to customers for these cancellations and delays. Our teams are working hard to minimise inconvenience to our passengers,” the airline added.
Approximately 5 percent of all departures and arrivals to and from the UK have been cancelled today.
However, it is being reported that ‘normal service’ is beginning to return to some UK airports, where thousands of passengers have been affected by delays.
