Swinford group thank public for engagement on biogas development

The Swinford Biogas Concern Group have issued a statement thanking everyone from the Swinford community and beyond who lodged objections with Mayo County Council regarding the Moy Valley Biogas proposal to construct a biogas plant in Lislackagh/Carrabaun.

“The recent refusal based on six grounds endorsed the assertion that this location is unsuitable,” said the group. “It is encouraging for people of the locality to have the support of Mayo County Council in acknowledging the genuine concerns about road safety, public health and safeguarding the environment.”

A total of 433 submission were made to Mayo County Council on the application. This is the second time such a proposal has been refused. The council refusal cited substandard road infrastrucutre and the possible environmental impact as the main reasons for the refusal. There is an expectation that the developers, Moy Valley Biogas, may appeal the decision ao An Bord Pleanala.
