Castlebar homeowners have been the focus of a mobile scam gang over the past few days according to local councillor, Ger Deere. The Fine Gael politician told Wednesday’s meeting of the local municipal district that unscrupulous individuals were tracking local authority workers and then swooping in on homeowners, offering them cut-price services.
“A large number of people have been in contact with me today highlighting what’s happening. It turns out there’s a scam going on where individuals are tracking what the council workers are doing on the roads. As soon as the council workers leave the area they arrive with hi-vis jackets telling homeowners they’re from the council and have a lot of material left over after the job on the road. They offer to do people’s driveways, but thankfully people are smart enough to know what’s going on. I’m highlighting the issue so that people can be aware of what’s happening and keep an eye out for vulnerable neighbours.”
