Shop assistant threatened with screwdriver
GARDAÍ are investigating a robbery of a shop in Westport last week where a shop assistant was threatened with a screwdriver. The incident took place on Wednesday evening, December 16 at approximately 7.30pm when a male entered the Harbour Stores shop at The Quay, Westport and threatened the female shop assistant with a screwdriver. The frightened shop assistant who was alone at the time was forced to hand over approximately €400 to the assailant who escaped on foot in the direction of Westport town. The incident was captured on CCTV but the man who spoke with a local accent was wearing a baseball cap and had a scarf covering his face. However, a garda spokesperson said that a man matching the assailants description was seen acting suspiciously around the Quay area, approximately ten minutes before the robbery. He said the man was obviously checking out his target before the incident and have asked the public who may have seen anything suspicious to contact Westport gardaí at 098 50230.
