Award-winning radio DJ, Ray Foley headed up a staggering €100,000 fundraiser for flood victims last week
Ballina DJ raises €100K for flood victims
Ballina native and award-winning radio DJ, Ray Foley headed up a staggering €100,000 fundraiser for flood victims last week – in just two-and-a-half hours. Ray, assisted by his sidekick JP Gilbourne and producer Adelle McDonnell, aimed to raise €5000 during the dedicated fundraising show which aired on Friday week last, but after the lunch-time slot, the DJ announced a mammoth €40,000 had been raised by listeners– a figure which doubled following the show’s completion – and eventually hit the grand total of €100,710.80. The incredible total has now gone straight to St Vincent De Paul’s flood relief fund which is assisting families get back up on their feet after their homes and possessions have been destroyed by the recent floods. Listeners to the show participated in a range of unique fund-raising ideas which included paid-for business mentions during the show and pre-paid song requests. Following the show’s end, Ray Foley thanked all the show’s loyal listeners. “I can’t believe we raised this much money; it’s incredible,” he said. The novel idea has now sparked a host of other similar radio flood-relief fundraisers with great success.
