Report on Ballina taxi service

COUNCILLORS in Ballina have commissioned a report examining the efficiency of the taxi service in the town.
At the reconvened November monthly meeting of Ballina Town Council held last Wednesday, Cllr Michelle Mulherin (pictured) tabled a motion that the investigative report be commissioned citing overcrowding of taxis at the existing rank on Pearse Street and Garden Street.  The wording of the motion called on the Council to ‘commission a report to examine the efficacy of the functioning of all aspects of the taxi service in Ballina’.
Introducing her motion, Cllr Mulherin suggested the provision of a central taxi rank may be the solution necessary to avoid the current situation which sees overcrowding at two of the town’s many ranks while the rest remain completely under utilised. She said that if a report is completed, in dialogue with taxi drivers, the town engineer can consider the findings for the future.
Elected members agreed on the motion with officials stating they would co-operate fully with the move.
