RTÉ to feature long established Claremorris family business in new show
Michael Commins
THE oldest established family business in Claremorris will be the subject of a special RTE television programme in early Spring. The Higgins family can trace their business association with the town of Claremorris (formerly known as Clare) back to the early decades of the 19th century. The latest phase in the family’s connection with the business life of the town came last week with the official opening of the completely renovated and redesigned Green’s on the Ballyhaunis Road. The premises, known for many years as the Green Stores, will now be known by the new name of Green’s and it maintains the link with the old Fair Green in the town on which site the business stands today. Former supermarket chief and former senator, Fergal Quinn, was on hand with a television crew from RTE to film the ceremonies and to conduct a series of interviews with Florence Higgins and others. Fergal will host the new series of shows which feature a number of old and long established family businesses in various parts of the country. He has already interviewed Tommy and Kathleen Higgins for the series which is expected to air in February. The new look Green’s has added a number of new labels to their selection and the spacious and redesigned premises is already proving a major ‘hit’ with customers.
