BOHOLA man Tommy Cryan was honoured by Crossboyne Parish Council and community on the occasion of his recent retirement from FÁS. For the past number of years, he had served as supervisor of the local scheme in Crossboyne and had overseen many enhancement works in the area.
Tommy left the village of Lismirrane near Bohola in 1959 and emigrated to England where he met his wife Kathleen who hailed from Carracastle. Their daughters Carmel and Linda were born in England while their son Thomas was born in Lismirrane in 1982. The family had moved home to Bohola in 1977.
Tommy joined a FÁS scheme in Brosna and was later associated with schemes in Carracastle and Swinford before finally supervising the Crossboyne scheme.
Popular with colleagues and the community, Tommy shared his skills with his fellow workers. Himself and the late Pake Garvey have left a legacy of skilled work behind them around Crossboyne church and village.
There was a fine attendance at the night in Keane’s of Crossboyne at which Tommy and his wife Kathleen and family were the special guests. The Parish Council expressed their appreciation to Tommy for his commitment and loyalty to the Crossboyne area during his time in the community. Food and refreshments were in plentiful supply and the music and banter rang out until closing time.
“The Crossboyne community will always remember his dedication, his friendship and his contribution to the community. We all wish him a very happy retirement after 14 years of devoted service to Fas and the communities which he served during that time. He will always be welcome among his many friends in the Crossboyne community,” said Mary Coleman, a member of the Parish and Community Council.
