A young Mayo entrepreneur has joined forces with rugby hero Jerry Flannery to expand his successful marketing business beyond the western region. Castlebar man Niall McGarry, who set up the Impact Media agency in 2003, is to open an office in Flannery’s native Limerick, creating six new jobs in the process. With its headquarters in Oranmore, Impact Media already employs 18 people and has a client-list including Midwest Radio, Supermacs and Dromoland Castle. Joining the company as a director, Flannery is set to use his legendary team spirit and enthusiasm to develop business in the southern region where Impact Media’s clients include the University of Limerick and pharmaceutical giant cook Medical Founder Niall McGarry - who is a native of Moneen, Castlebar, and the son of Maureen and Michael - is a former winner of the 2004 West of Ireland Shell Livewire Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Having studied Marketing and Advertising at Limerick Institute of Technology, he is already very familiar with the business climate in Munster. “We began to recognise significant demand for our marketing services - everything from web-design to PR - coming from the Munster region. We couldn’t have found a better person to head up our Limerick operations,” said McGarry. “On the field of play, Jerry is a great motivator. He’s full of drive and enthusiasm, no matter how tough the going is. These qualities are essential in business - especially in the current climate.” Jerry Flannery - who holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree - will take up his new position soon after he returns from the Lions tour of South Africa. “I’m really looking forward to the challenge,” he said. “There are many opportunities in the southern region and I will be driving the business intensively so that we can build on Impact Media’s existing Munster client-base.” Flannery will join Impact Media in time for the company’s fourth annual Impact Media Elevate Awards. The awards have been hugely successful in boosting start-up businesses in Galway city and county. This year’s judging panel is also set to include top businessmen Fergal Quinn and Pat McDonagh.
